Team S'wooft Gears Up for the PAWS 5K

This will be the fourth year S’wooft has participated in the PAWS Chicago 5K Walk/Run For Their Lives. Building #community and supporting other pet-related organizations are two important parts of the S’wooft mission, and this annual event has become one of our favorite ways to achieve those. Each year, we form a team made up of S’wooft staff, clients, and friends, and set a fundraising goal to support the work of PAWS Chicago. On event day, we come together to walk (with a few opting to run!) the 5K, many bringing their pets, to get to know each other better and share in our love of pets. This year we hope to increase our fundraising over the total $2,366 raised in past years.

This year’s event will be held on June 2, 2019 at Montrose Harbor (yep, near the dog beach!), and we really want to make a statement in this year’s fundraising and team participation. Donations are tax deductible, and every bit helps! Simply giving $5-10 and sharing with your network of pet lovers will help us get closer to our goal, or if you like long walks on the beach with your dog, we’d love for you to join our team!

Early Bird Registration is just $30 per person and ends on March 31st. After that it will be $40+ to join.

More about PAWS: “PAWS Chicago (Pets Are Worth Saving) is a national model in No Kill animal sheltering, committed to bringing an end to the killing of homeless cats and dogs.  As Chicagoland’s largest No Kill shelter, and one of the largest in the nation, PAWS has helped to reduce the number of homeless pets killed in the city by 87 percent since its founding in 1997.  In just 20 years, PAWS Chicago has grown from a grassroots organization to a national leader in the No Kill movement, guiding other communities in how to dramatically reduce the euthanasia of homeless cats and dogs.

In 2017, PAWS Chicago found homes for 5,371 dogs and cats through its Lincoln Park and Highland Park Adoption Centers and performed 16,237 spay and neuter surgeries through its Lurie Clinic and Gus Mobile Spay/Neuter Van. These two medical resources give PAWS Chicago the ability to provide subsidized spay/neuter surgeries, vaccinations and humane education to under-served families and neighborhoods that need the most help in controlling pet population.

Charity Navigator, the nation’s largest independent evaluator, has rated PAWS Chicago at its highest 4-star ranking for 16 consecutive years—an accomplishment that less than 1% of the charities in the nation have reached. PAWS receives no government funding and relies solely on people like you to help provide continued care for Chicago's homeless animals.” (www.mypawschicago.org)
